Two decades of music making with12 albums in his discography, singer Dhiraj Rai has created his own niche in the Nepali music scene. And appreciating his contribution, Rai was felicitated with the prestigious Koeili Devi Puraskar of 2067 BS (2010/2011).
Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Bairagi Kaila was joined by cultural expert Jagdish Shumsher Rana, and social worker Khanuprude (Rambabu), who jointly honored Rai with the title and handed him a sum of Rs 20,000.
“I’ve seen Dhiraj perform and I was really impressed by the energy and enthusiasm he brings to the stage,” praised Cultural expert Rana.
Littérateur Narendra Prasai praised Rai’s contributions to Nepali music, and joining Prasai was actor Madan Das Shrestha, who discussed his creative endeavors as a writer and said that he was both a good singer and a writer.
Apart from music, Rai, a lecturer of English, has two books under his belt and also directed the documentary about veteran singer Om Bikram Bista. He also played an instrumental role in the making of much acclaimed documentary “Itihas Jitneharuko Lagi”.
“For an artiste there’s nothing more satisfying than appreciation for his work. I’m humbled by this gesture, thank you so much,” said Rai, who further added that the award had encouraged him to contribute more to the field of music.
Singer Rai has released 12 albums till date, and his recent album was titled “20 Years.”
