Music for meditation

Singer Bednidhi Poudel’s love affair with music began at a very tender age in Itahari. “ I knew for sure that my life was going to be on a path that involves and revolves around music,” reveals the singer who’s been in the field for 18 years.

Honing his craft further under various maestros such as Gopalnath Yogi, Bhola Rai, and Kusheswor Rai, Poudel has also obtained diploma in music from Sur Sangam Bidhyalaya of Ilahabad in India.

A talent most sought after in the Eastern parts of the country, Poudel is slowly, yet steadily building his presence in the capital. Recently, he entertained a group of distinguished guests at Gurukul Theater in Kathmandu.

“It was amazing at Gurukul, the audience was most supportive and their reaction was really encouraging. I believe good music will find its crowd,” shares the singer who has taken his passion one step further with a music school in Itahari.

“I had released a group album “Chhadke Nazar” 10 years ago. “Nashalu Raat,” “Chhadke Nazar,” “Aja Andhyarole,” and “Nazarke Uthake” are my first recorded songs,” revealed the singer who is an ardent Naryan Gopal and Mehndi Hassan fan. Poudel has composed four dozen songs, among which eight songs have been recorded.

Sharing his future plans, the singer revealed that he’s working on his new album that should be ready within a year. “I believe in simple harmony, and melody that touches one’s soul. Chaotic assembly that’s prevalent in Nepali music scene these days has no interest to me what so ever,” he further adds, “The new album is predominantly pop; love songs with a hint of western flavor.  Other project include, soundtrack for Nilhari Pokhrel’s upcoming movie.”

Looks like busy days ahead for the Sunsari resident, but how does he preserve his sanity?

Poudel shares, “Meditation is something everyone should practice in this increasingly stressful existence. I meditate, and try to live a simple life doing things that makes me happy - music is a big part of my existence!”
